D'Amour You Know

The Struggle Was Real!

by Lindsay Roberts on 2017-07-13T12:00:00-04:00

While cleaning out a filing cabinet recently, we happened across Circulation Department policies and annual reports from the '80s and '90s. We hope you find the following selections as amusing as we did.

From the D'Amour Library "Workstation Policy" circa 1997:

"WORKSTATIONS ARE FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES...RESTRICT YOUR USAGE TO 30 MINUTES... Library workstations are to be used for academic purposes. E-mail and wordprocessing are available elsewhere on campus."

According to the 1992 Circulation Department Annual Report, major projects carried out in 1991 included:

  • relocating the collection of phone books to the Circulation Desk
  • creating space for a growing VHS collection

In 1995, staff were thrilled to finally have a computer at the Reference Desk:

"A computer at the reference desk is a real plus. It allows us to do 'real work' while we are 'manning' the reference desk. We can explore the Internet as well as use the wordprocessing component..."

Also from the 1995 annual report, a complaint about the Internet connection:

"...it can sometimes be very frustrating when all the lines are busy...not good for patron satisfaction."

As you can see, D'Amour Library has come a long way. We try to keep up with the trends, such as that newfangled Internet, in order to better serve our patrons (you). Stay tuned for announcements on new Library features and resources!
